Where I stayed
Some crappy hotel with an 'insect' eating my bed. I think its called a rat Sir!
Arriving in Hanoi couldn't be more of an experience. Settling into our hotel room we hear noises coming from the bed frame. After the hotel manager checks it out he tells us that there is an 'insect' eating the bed frame and it won't hurt me. Um, sir I think you have this wrong, its a rat. Hannah saw the rat cross the floor and since she's actually deathly afraid of rats you'll need to switch our room please. Ugh, climbing the stairs to the top floor we finally get to take a shower before heading out to see the city. Thankfully we are leaving in the morning for Ha Long Bay!
Shops line the streets while people weld, sew, paint, bake and so on. Passing every imaginable western shop along the way to the Temple of Literature I couldn't feel more surrounded by Corporate America. Passing a hospital we notice a board of graphic photographs and a courtyard with at least 30 stretchers full of injured people waiting to get into the hospital. I have no idea what happened but I don't want to stick around to find out.
The Temple of Literature was dedicated to Confucius one year after his death. There are school children here for the day doing various performances of song and dance routines as well as a group of veterans visiting the temple.
I am ready for Ha Long Bay and a nice boat ride!
