The real name of the town is Dunba. The road was treacherous but the future road development was staggering. There were huge tunnels through the mountains. When complete armies will have no trouble reaching these Tibetan places. It will be easy for Han Chinese to migrate to the wild west. We have seen many hundreds of army trucks, fully laden heading into the Tibetan highlands on these bad roads.
We are not in Tibet as such. It is very hard to get in and costs many thousands just for a week of highly supervised travel. We are in Tibetan cultural areas which it is said are more Tibetan then Tibet because of migration of Han Chinese to Tibet.
Dunba is beautiful and we visted a Tibetan town.

Looks very attractive there
Those mountains look incredible...did you get to go into the tower?
Hats off to the photographer
What a fabulous place it looks. I think Carl should have offered to trade hats!
It's quite distressing to read of the road work that will allow the Chinese to ship troops in to the area fast. It's also a good reminder of how wide-spread Tibetans are in China and of the sources where an 'authentic' Tibetan culture might remain.
Keep the wonderful photos coming.
