We are finally out of the city!!!  On Sunday night we took a 22 hour bus ride to Puerto Madryn to check out some Penguins.  We got here and found out that the town is a long way from any wildlife watching.  We were a little disappointed because the tours to both Peninsula Valdes and Punto Tombo were way over priced.  I was sitting in the lobby of our hostel and saw a guy (Justin) who looked pretty adventuresome and not like the type who would want to take an overpriced tour.  Before we knew it Jessie and I along with Justin, his wife Katy, and a guy named Rubin (who we met on the bus) had rented a car with plans to explore on our own.  Early the next morning all five of us crammed into our FordKa and drove the 171 kilometers to Punta Tombo.
The penguins did not disappoint us.  There were thousands of the little guys chillin out along the hillsides next to the beach.  This early in the season we saw mostly males who were setting up nests waiting for their ladies to show up.  It was kind of a strange place.  The whole area right up to the coast is really dry and flat and looks a lot like southern Idaho with rabbit brush and native bunch grasses.  The penguins had dug little holes for nests all over the hillsides.  We were able to walk right up next to them.  It was spectacular.           After spending a few hours with the penguins we were off to check out a Welsh town, Gaiman, where we planned to sip some tea at a tea house that Princess Diana had visited.  The town wasn't very Welsh at all and the tea house wanted to charge us 80 pesos for some sandwiches and tea...No thank you.  We all crammed back into our trusty steed and headed to Puerto Piramides to look for whales.  On our way out of Gaiman we almost lost FordKa when Jessie hit a speed bump at full speed launching us into the air.  We hit the front end of the car on the pavement but thankfully there was no damage.  We ended our day at Puerto Piramides with a Southern Right Whale sighting!!
