It's Charles

We spent our last few days in Nicaragua in San Juan del Sur. It is a beach town on the southwest side of Nicaragua.  We arrived in the late afternoon, found a hotel that looked good, and then walked around the town.  There were lots of restaurants, bars, and shops, but it was still a small town and easy to walk everywhere.  We checked out the beach and saw that a cruise ship was docked a bit out to sea and that was pretty cool.  We went to an Italian restaurant for dinner and got pizza, which was pretty good.  Not New Jersey pizza, but respectable.

The next day we had breakfast at the hotel and then went to the beach.  We stayed there for most of the morning, laying on the beach and getting in the ocean a bit.  Around noon, we left and got lunch at a place that was supposed to have great cheese steaks (based on a travel book I read).  No cheese steaks, but the food was good.  We then went back to the hotel for a bit.  After lunch I got really sick and had to stay in the room for most of the afternoon.  I tried to rally around dusk and even got a drink at the bar.  That was a mistake as I got sick again.  It was a bummer because this was supposed to be our nice little relaxing vacation before we head off to another month of volunteering.  We stayed in and watched movies that night on the only English channel we received (fortunately they were decent movies.)

The next day we went to the beach again.  I still wasn’t feeling well, so I only spent an hour at the beach before heading to the hotel to rest.  Heather stayed at the beach and had to eat lunch alone.  That was a bummer for both of us.  I felt better near dusk , so we went for a walk on the beach to see the sunset.  We had just watched the sunset and I took a picture of us with the surf in the background when I proposed on the beach.  I think Heather was surprised!  At least I hope that she was.  (Note from Heather: I WAS!)

We went to a bar on the beach to celebrate.  I had a virgin pina colata and she had a real one.  We enjoyed the moment as we had our feet in the sand and drank our delicious drinks.  Later, we went and got dinner at an Irish bar near our hotel.  Dinner was good, it even came with Doritos!  We then went back to the hotel and watched a movie.

The next day we took a walk in the morning, did a little window shopping, and then got a cab to take us to Costa Rica.  It was a short trip that was almost ruined because I got sick.  But we persevered and it turned into a trip that we will never forget.  We got engaged on the beach at sunset in San Juan del Sur!  How cool is that? (Note from Heather: VERY COOL!)
