We stayed a couple of days at Childers to have a break from driving. Childers had the unfortunate tragedy of the Palace backpackers burning down, killing two Aussie (twin girls) and thirteen overseas kids. (see our story July 2nd 2000 Fraser Island) The site now houses a very tasteful memorial to those who died.

As we were leaving Childers we happened on an electricity transformer (80 ton?) lying in the main street. It had fallen from the back of a truck, which one can only assume was travelling way too fast for town limits, to loose a load this size!!!!!
