Where I stayed
We have come to spend a few days with Dad in Lightning Ridge. Tim wanted to try his luck at digging for Opal today. So we drove to Dad's mine. Today was the first time that I have ever been down the mine. Usually my fear of heights kicks in when I step onto the shaky ladder that disappears 60 feet down into the ground. Today I was determined and even surprised myself. Tim and Dad spent a couple of hours down the mine after which we drove to the "Pub in the Scrub" now renamed the "Club in the Scrub". for a drink.
We have been staying at a small Motel in town called Bluey's Motel for $75 a night, but we have to move out today because they are fully booked tonight but there are several motels in town.
We are leaving for England on Saturday and are a bit concerned about the Icelandic volcano Ash cloud disrupting flights over the UK and Europe. The latest news is that flights will resume on Wednesday but it has erupted again this morning. Fingers crossed!!
Last day at Dad's
We spent the last day hanging out at Dad's. Tim helped him fix his aerial, We spent some time cleaning and scraping the stones pulled form the mine and looking for any decent pieces. Alas we will have to keep paying the mortgage for another year. We did find some traces of opal which was interesting. Later we had a barbie and played some card games until about 8pm.
We had to change our Motel for the last night because the Blueys was full. We went to the first one we saw on the corner of the main street. They had a room and it was the same price so we took it without looking at it. Later when we came back to move our bags in we realised that this was not to the same standard but by then it was too late. I had already paid. The place was dirty and full of mozzies. The bed was so small that Tim's feet overshot the end by about 6 inches and the mattress was so soft that I spend all night rolling towards the middle. Reminded me of camping with a half inflated blow up mattress. I didn't sleep all night. Partly the bed, partly the threat of mozzies and because we had to get up at 5am to catch the early coach to Dubbo.
