A group of us took a day trip to the Champagne region last weekend - best decision ever. They have free champagne tastings at the town tourist offices.  Amazing.  Shouldn't all tourist offices give out free alcohol?   We walked around to a bunch of the different champagne makers in Epernay and then in Reims.  Surprisingly Moet was not one of the most expensive champagnes they make there.  We did a guided tour of the champagne caves at Taittinger where they make and store all their champagne during the fermentation process (I'm of course very knowledgeable of champagne making now :P ).  The tour was in French and there was a screaming baby who came along for the tour, (French people don't appear to ever discipline their children, and who brings a small child on a champagne tasting tour?), so I probably only understood about 60% of the champagne process but ya know, I got the gist of what was going on in those caves...

I posted a bunch of pictures of the caves, they were pretty impressive.  There were little alcoves with as many as 75,000 bottles of champagne in them- stacked up from the floor to practically to the ceiling!

Classes finally started this week...I have to take classes?...but no worries, there's another strike tomorrow in Paris and so apparently my professor for my class today decided to start his participation a bit early and just didn't show up to the first class.  I will totally support them if they decide to prolong the strike all semester!  I was a bit intimidated while waiting for the prof to show up in a huge lecture hall full of Parisian students...I just hope I can keep up with what's going on!

I leave for Munich tomorrow for La Fête de Bière  (Oktoberfest!!).  It's apparently "Italian Weekend" at Oktoberfest, which is when large caravans of Italian tourists come in to take part in the festivities.  Should be interesting to say the least...After Munich it's off to Heidelberg for 2 days to stay with Scott's great aunt!  :)
