Monday 30th
12 miles - Dunham Town

We had a slow start today. We woke to really heavy rain and the showers continued on and off all morning and the early part of the afternoon. We thought we would give it till 10am for the rain to stop then set off regardless. Then I remembered I had a parcel to post. The nearest post office was in Worsley, just a mile or so further along the canal so we stopped there, found the footpath to the shops and I set off with my parcel. The newsagent was just a couple of minutes from the towpath so I went in and bought the newspaper then asked about the post office. Discovered it was further away than the book had indicated but I got there in 10 minutes, walking quickly. On the way back to the boat I remembered I had to post a birthday card which I hadn't bought so went back into the newsagents for a card. Went back to the boat to write it and get a stamp then went back to the newsagents to post it. Waited again for another break in the showers and set off again. We are on the Bridgewater canal and came through Stretford, and Sale which are suburbs of Manchester and have arrived at a little village called Dunham Town which must just about be on the very SW edge of Manchester. It is described in the Nicholson Guide as a small, scattered farming village with a pub. It's a lovely spot and will do for the night. Poor internet connection though but we have watched the mens synchronised diving on TV.
