Sunday 3rd
Went to St Michael's church this morning which sported union flags obviously made by the children some time earlier in the week. The flowers decorating the church had a red, white and blue theme - just like St Stephens in Ambridge, and probably hundreds of other churches across the country today. The national anthem was sung at the end of the service and we came home to watch the Thames Pageant on TV. Early in the afternoon we had a phone call from friends who had just passed us by on their new boat. They moored up and we had a quick catch up as they have to get to Great Haywood this evening. I had given up hope of seeing them as they passed by so it was a real pleasure to meet up. We had intended moving off this afternoon but the weather was very dismal so we got the chimney back out of it's locker and into place on the roof and lit a fire and hibernated.

Monday 4th
4 miles
8 locks
Today dawned bright and sunny and much warmer than yesterday so we made an earlier start than usual. Would you believe it, the two single handers had set off just ahead of us. Twice running is a coincidence, three times - well. I think they must be looking out for us. They obviously like Bryan helping them through the locks. We made exceedingly slow progress. We wanted to top up with water and there was a short wait there as only one tap was available and another boat was using it. Then we were third in the queue for the first lock which improved slowly as we got further out of Stone. By the time we got to the Meaford locks we were on our own. A big black cloud followed us up the waterway and coats and cratch covers were on and off but apart from a couple of spots of water, the rain held off. We have moored just outside Barlaston and the first thing I did was to hang out the washing. Let's hope the rain holds off.
