Friday 1st June
6 miles
3 locks
There has been quite a lot of traffic both up and downstream for the last few days. We were moored just a few hundred yards from our next lock over night and getting ready to leave this morning, two boats came past us heading for the lock. Bryan said to wait to let those boats get through the lock but I suggested we go anyway as other boats could be on their way too. So we left and got to the lock to find the two boats in front of us were single handers so Bryan went on ahead to help them up and by the time it was our turn to go there were three more boats behind us waiting their turn. I think maybe there are lots of boats on the move to get to the various festivals around to celebrate the Jubilee. We decided not to go on to Stone today but to leave earlier tomorrow morning to see if we can find a space to moor there then. If boats have been moored up there over night and are planning to leave tomorrow then if there are going to be any spaces these will probably be free about 10am. We shall see.

Bryan is going to Scotland for a few days in the middle of June to attend his aunt Rosemary's memorial service. We managed to book Charis into a marina in Macclesfield so I will stay there while Bryan is away. We also booked his train tickets so he's all set. We also put away our chimney and our unused coal today and swept the chimney. Here's hoping the weather stays warm for the next few months.

Saturday 2nd
3.5 miles,1 lock
We are within walking distance of Stone. Didn't go to the visitor moorings as we thought it might be very busy which it turned out to be but I think our mooring is much nicer. It was quite a miserable morning weatherwise. There are quite a few boats around here today. We only had one lock to go through but it took us about 2 hours. There were 2 boats ahead of us waiting to lock up. There was little place to wait as 2 BWB boats were moored up, obviously in the middle of dredging, although being a Saturday there was no work going on. The two single handers we met yesterday were going up infront of us today - well one was, the other was behind us. The first of these two boats went into the lock and we let the second one (who was behind us in the queue) go up next. The lock was being set for us to go up next and I was just getting Charis lined up ready to go in when the gates were opened when I realised the paddles were being closed again. Another boat had come along up stream so Bryan reversed the lock so they could come down first. Luckily I noticed so got Charis back to the bank so we could be out of the way when the boat came out of the lock. Not a problem. We were just there twice as long as I anticipated and was glad to get through at last.

Stone itself is a very pleasant town and the Farmers' Market was in progress today so Bryan was pleased. No sign of a festival going on when we arrived but a poster seen later on says that the festival is in a weeks time.
