We arrived in Hampi after a 10 hour train journey via a stop in Bangalore for dinner at a restaurant with the worst service I've experienced so far!

After arriving at the station we had a half hour tuc tuc ride followed by a boat ride across the lake to reach our home for the next two nights.

The hotel called Shanthi Guest House is really lovely and we're each staying in little huts with our own veranda and swing bed outside, not bad for a basic trip!

The vibe in Hampi is very similar to Varkala; quite hippy-esque and very chilled out. The only difference is we're not by the coast but the beautiful landscape here more than makes up for that. On one side there's lush green rice paddies and palm trees and on the other there are huge rocks and boulders with a lake running through between them. It's hard to believe that I'm still in India sometimes.

In the afternoon we hired some bikes and did a pretty long ride up to the lake and then to the monkey temple where we climbed to the top to admire the views and the sunset. There were a lot of steps but it felt good to do some exercise and I need all the training I can get for Nepal!

The monkeys were pretty cocky - one opened someone's bag, took out a bunch of bananas and ran away with them!

We're in Hampi for two nights which I think we're all grateful for cos we've done a lot of long journeys in the last week. It's really nice to catch up on sleep and have some time to do our own thing.

We ate dinner together last night and had a few drinks until a few of the other guests at the hotel told us to keep the noise down - everyone goes to bed so bloody early here! It's a holy town so strictly speaking they're not supposed to have alcohol here but our hotel seems to have a secret stash of beer and vodka!
