13.04.09 Up early 6am and off to brekie, met for jeep tour in Zebra Lounge at 7.45am. Allocated a jeep and climbed aboard with
a couple in their 70's from Tauranga and a couple from London. Our driver was a female and native from Marmaris. The conroy was
Off through the township of Marmaris up into the hillside through a forest and a few streams. We had to make running repairs as
our jeep was making a hideous rattling noise, pipes knocking apparently.  Saw a storks nest on top of a power pole, but very few grazing
animals only the occassional sheep and cow/bull which was teethered in the paddock, as there is not much grazing land. There were
quite a few goats however as they eat anything. Their main income is from honey and then olives. Stopped at a so called water fall,
just a trickle nothing like in NZ. Then off to have smoko with the locals and try their Turkish Coffee, Tea and Apple Tea
(I tried the Apple Tea, not bad, quite refreshing) and some wraps baked while we waited with parsley and cheese filling. The
locals treated us to some music with a mandolin style instrument and accompanying drums. There were local wares to buy under a
lean to shelter. Our driver explained that if there were glass bottles right side up on the roof of their house the family had
a daughter to marry off. The boy had to shoot the bottle off the roof in order to ask to marry her.  If the bottle was inverted
it meant the woman who lived there was a widow and wanted to remarry. Back into the jeeps and off to climb further into the
hillside and what spectular views of the bay below. Saw some awesome 1000 yr old trees (cant remember what they were called),
also saw some castle ruins and mosques etc. Back down the hillside and through a little village, some of the road signs were hard
case they were like our stop signs but said DUR presume this still means stop... but amusing. Then Marmaris again and back to
the ship.  Lots of fun, great way to see the countryside.

Back from lunch around 1.45pm, then much needed shower as very dusty.

Another show tonight... Classical Music so should be fun.  Last nights show was excellent, a juggler, 2 strong men doing a
routine that used various gymnastic strength and balance moves, very impressive and then the dancers did a couple of numbers as
did the violinist.
