We stayed in an RV park close to the French Quarter. We went to Cafe Du Monde for birthday beignets: John turned 40. We heard a concert at the Mint, shopped at the French Market and visited the New Orleans Jazz NHP, Jean Lafitte NP, and two of our favorite bookstores: Faulkner House Books and Beckham's Bookshop. We celebrated New Years Eve at a lovely restaurant called the Old Coffee Pot, and it is old--it opened in 1894. We had walked by it earlier in the day, and our attention was drawn to the restaurant by one of the servers giving an impromptu performance. She had an amazing voice, and we stopped to listen to her. A nice little New Orleans moment.
On our last day, we drove to the Chalmette National Cemetery, which is part of the Jean Lafitte NP. It is the site of the Battle of New Orleans, the last major battle of the War of 1812.
