Bob the builder in Nawa Pind
What a day! After working on the bike yesterday, I was in 'Bob the Builder' mode today and got a couple of things done around the house, that should have been done along time ago. I started off looking at the bike again, the ignition switch needed sorting and there is a cold start problem with it, I got the switch sorted but the cold start is a bit out of my league. I had a major tidy up of the house, after my little confrontation with Laxmi the other day, she hasn't cleaned the side of the house I'm staying in, which is fine by my, I have hands too and they work! Obviously my Thai is not happy about my newfound independence because it's not the Indian way but I'm cool with it all, in fact I prefer it this way.
I was waiting on the new tiles today, and when they hadn't arrived by the afternoon we went to Nakodar to pay the guy's a visit, apparently the roof of the warehouse they had ordered the stuff from had collapsed last night. I probably wouldn't have believed him, but then there was an article about it in the paper. I guess it could still be a lie, but in the end I just told him to send the tiles he had. Soma took the bike to his mechanic saying he would solve the cold start problem, the guy got one of his joeys to look at it and he just tweaked the idle a bit and then adjusted the mixture and said it would be fine! It wasn't fine and I have a bet with Soma that it won't start in the morning with the choke on, he thinks it will, lets see who wins.
The main accomplishment of the day was fixing the main gate to the house, its been messed up for years, one side of it was lower than the other, so when we tried to lock it together it used to be quite a struggle. I got some washers from Nakodar and put them in at the hinges to lift up the lower gate and it worked a treat! Soma said they have called a few people to look at the gate but they all said they would have to pull it off the wall and relocate the hinges, basically it was more hassle than it was worth for them. It just goes to show what a bit of common sense and will power can achieve!
The satellite TV guy was supposed to come and fix the receiver today, I've been ringing him for well over a week and today was the last straw, he didn't answer his phone all day and at 9pm when I eventually got threw to him I gave him a piece of my mind, I basically told him to come and take his dish and receiver and that I didn't want it anymore, he is adamant he will come tomorrow and fix it, lets see what happens, I'm not going to hold my breath!
We had a freak thunder and lightning storm tonight, everything was fine and calm until around 8.30pm, when the wind started to blow and we saw lightning in the distance, it wasn't long before the heaven opened up and it began to rain.
