Day 157 Fri 14th April 2006
The wedding gets underway!

The lads went to Harmandir sahib this morning, they left at 4am and that was way too early for me so I took a rain check on that one. I eventually woke up at midday, yesterday's performance had left me feeling pretty battered. I had food at the hotel and then rang Gagan just to see how things were in Pind, he told me that Thai wasn't feeling well and that he had to take her to the doctors. I was a bit worried about her and made my way back to Pind on the bus. It was around 2pm by the time I got there and Thai was feeling much better already. Gagan and Soma were planning to go to a Vaisakhi Mela at a Pind nearby so I went along with them.

It was the first time I had been to a "Vaisakhi Mela' in India and it was not as big as I had expected but it was still good fun! They had fairground rides and stall selling everything and anything, but the best thing was the OX racing. They tied the a pair of Ox to a wooden frame and made them run around in circles for a set period of time, the aim was to see which pair did the most amount of laps in the specified time. The funniest thing was I found out today where the Punjabi phrase 'bond vich oongli deh' comes from. It's of no relevance to a non Punjabi so just ask me when you speak to me or in an email. It's funny as hell though!!! Anyway we were joined at the Mela by a couple of lads from Pind and after having a good look around we made our way back to pind around 6pm. There was a realIy good atmosphere at the Mela, people were out having a good time. The Pirate ship litrally had people hanging off it (see pic) and police wielding large truncheons was chasing around after the lads who were u to no good.

When we got back to Pind, I jumped on the bus back to Jalandhar and met up with the lads. We all went down to Jag's house for the Jaago (night before the wedding) celebrations. Danny, Anil and Ajee were a bit tired after their mission to the Golden Temple, but didn't stop us having a good time. During the Jaago, we went to Jag's neighbour's houses in a huge group, playing the Dhol, doing Boliyaan and dancing the whole way. We had a great time and ended up back at Jag's, where we kept going till the early morning. What a great night! I think we are all just running on the adrenalin of the moment, because I know I feel totally wasted already and I'm sure the lads do too. We still have the wedding and the party on the following day to get through!
