Day 145 Sun 2nd April 2006
Back to Kratie in record-breaking speed!

Well, we're back in Kratie after a mad couple of days with our makeshift trial bikes (or mopeds!). Last night the rain fell in Sen Monorom, it rained from about 1am all the way through to 7.30am. That's a lot of rain! We got up around 9am, Derek wasn't really feeling the whole mining town thing, and Ton wasn't around to tell us if it was worth going there or not, so we decided to head back to Kratie. We went out for breakfast with Michael and Evan, they are going to stay one more day before moving on, just to give Michael a chance to get him self together. We got our stuff packed and got on the road for about midday. We saw the Hummer again this morning, it's funny how just when you think your in a remote part of war torn Cambodia, where most people are living a hand to mouth existence, there is some guy rolling around in a 80,000 machine.

The road and weather conditions were perfect today, last nights rain meant the dirt was not flying around and the hazy sunshine meant we were not being roasted! Derek's bike was causing him a bit of grief at first but I worked some magic on it and then we were off! We tore down the dirt track like we had been on the road a hundred times before. We got to Snoul in 3 hours, bare in mind it took us over 5 hours to do that stretch the other day. We stopped in Snoul for a bite to eat, then Derek came back to Kratie on full throttle. I took it easy from there, and stopped for pictures along the way. On the way here I passed a bridge and it reminded me of the one at the end of Sholey(classic Hindi film), I had to stop and take a picture, taka ea look at it and see what you think. I came back a half hour later then Derek, we went out for dinner and then came back to the guesthouse to settle in front of the telly to watch Man U vs Bolton.

We are staying at the Lakeside again and have arranged to go to Phnom Penh in the morning. We are both feeling really tired today. The last few days have been really good. Riding around on the dirt tracks reminded me of a TV programme we used to watch as kids, Kick Start ( or at least that's what I think it was called), does anyone else remember that? It was about trail biking. Anyway, it's been great fun, and I managed to stay on my bike the whole time! There were a few close calls but then like I said yesterday, the skills are improving!!! The travelogue is short and sweet today, hope you like it that way!
