Day 110 Sun 26th Feb 2006
Leaving Pink House, and moving onto Negombo.
I managed to sleep right through till 5am, that probably the longest I have slept all the time I have been here! I got up around 8.30am, showered and finished packing my stuff. I had breakfast with the Gremans and Phoebe. They all went to the elephant Orphanage today it's on my list for next time. I had a bit of a panic this morning because I thought had left my Nagozey in Newara Eliya, I could find them in my bag anywhere, but then Auntie reminded me I had put them I a cupboard for safe keeping (bit too safe!). at breakfast I met another guy from the UK, he was originally from Hull but was now living in Bath. He had just come from India and was here for a couple of months (wish I had that much time!). I said my goodbyes to everyone and left the wonderful Pink House at 12. I will really miss that place, it was like home from home, Auntie really looked after me with the bill to I think I paid less than I should have on the room and my laundry (thanks you). I got a Tuk to the stand and caught a Delux bus to Negombo. I met a guy called Janaka at the stand. He came up to me and asked me if the bus for Negombo was going to stop here, in SINGALHI! (the Sri Lankan language). I told him it was, in ENGLISH (of course) and we got talking, he thought I was a Sri Lankan, I didn't think I was that dark! Check the photo and let me know, please. When we got onto the bus there was quite a rush and, having my back&frontpacks didn't help. Janaka was good enough to hold me a seat. This busker came on the bus, it the first time I have seen anyone busking in Sri Lanka, I couldn't understand what he was singing but Janaka said he was pretty good, and that's good enough for me! check out the vid and see for yourself.

We kept talking on the bus and about an hour-and-a-half into the journey I needed to go pee AGAIN! Janaka could see I was in some discomfort so I told him needed to go, he got the driver to stop the NON-STOP bus just so I could take a leak. It's a good thing I met him really! We got to Negomobo at 4pm, Janaka had got off about 20 minutes before me. I got a Tuk and made my way to a hotel recommended by Dan and Becky, we couldn't find that one but I managed to get a decent room for a good price right on the beach. I dropped my backpack in the room, and went out for some food. I didn't have lunch so I was starved by now. There was a place next to the guesthouse so I just went there. I've had my fill of Veg Curry & rice over the past couple of weeks so I went for a Veg Noodles, the waiter started talking to me because there was no-one else in the place. I could tell by his mannerisms that he was Gay, then he started telling me he does massages at the hotel behind the restaurant (yeah, bells started ringing in my head). He said if you book a massage from the hotel it's Rs1000, but if does it direct it would be Rs200. He tried to get me to have, but I declined the offer (there was no way in the world that was going to happen!), he was pretty persistent and when he said he would do me one for free! I finished what was left of my food, paid the bill and RAN from there!!! After food I went to call home, it was Simrans 9th Birthday today, I already sent her a card in the post and she told me about the present she had received. (sorry I wasn't there with you Sim, hope you had a good time). I went to the beach to watch the final Sri Lankan sunset and then came back to my room. I have arranged for a Tuk to take me to the airport in the morning, I was thinking about going on the bus, but it's going to be too much of a mission that early in the morning.

I have had the most wonderful time here. Sri Lanka is a great country to visit and it's people are amongst the kindest I have met. It offers everything, for everyone and I will definitely be coming back here! I have a 5am start in the morning and it's gone 11.30pm already, so good night from me in Sri Lanka, and the next time you hear from me, it will be from Thailand.
