Day 109 Sat 25th Feb 2006
A day of chilling in Kandy (at last!)

I got up at 9.30 this morning and had planned to do absolutely nothing all day! I was supposed to go to see the Buddha statue at the top of the hill in Kandy, but decided that the photo I had of it was good enough!

I had breakfast and just did nothing all morning, Dan and Becky were around so I had another chat with Becky, while Dan kept the kids entertained (the kids were off school today, oh they are Aunties grandchildren by the way). She told me about their adventures around Lanka and about the fight they got into on a beach in the south. Dan ended up with a red eye and they went to the doctors today because it hadn't healed in a week and last night Dan was in a lot of pain. Becky went into town and got some lunch for us, and I accidentally gave away Dan's Samosas to the kids! (me Larry). The high light of the morning, and in-fact the whole day, was the kids managed to push over the fridge, it had a portable TV and a tape player on it! They were supposed to be watching a film with Dan but...yeah that's boy's for ya! I think it knocked a bit of sense into them though, they didn't make a sound for a long time afterwards. Just after lunch a new girl came into the house, her name is Phoebe (hope I spelled that right), she is from London and has been living with a local family and teaching in a school for 6 weeks. She now has 6 weeks to travel around and see the place before heading back home. It was her first day in Kandy and we went into town together to get her some lunch and so I could get something else for Dan! (sorry about that mate!). it was nice to be able to show someone else around the place, and pass on a few tips about places to see and people to stay away from. I really like Kandy, it a nice place (I think I told you that already). I would defiantly come back here again. I just lounged around most of the afternoon, Becky and Dan gave me their copy of the South East Asia guide book, how nice is that? It's going to be a great help. (thank you guys, I really appreciate it). I upgraded my room today to the only room that has an attached bathroom. Not for the bathroom, but for the fact that it has a double bed, the single beds are not long enough and at least on this one I can lie diagonally.

Dan, Becky, Phoebe and I all had Dinner together, then Dan wanted to go to town to get some more booze so Phoebe and I got a lift with him. We both wanted to use the net, I have booked a room in Bangkok for the first two nights I'm there. We walked back to the house and got in for around 9.30pm. I wanted to get my stuff ready for the move tomorrow so I said my goodnights and came back to my room. I really need a good nights sleep tonight, so lets see what happens. It's been nice to do nothing today, it meant I had time to spend with the people in Pink House, Auntie and her daughter Vindya, Dan and Becky, this guy from Slovenia, Phoebe and the girl that helps Auntie run the place-Harushini. Not forgetting Vindya's boys, Kiren & Anuk, and their cousin Dale! I nearly forgot a few Germans and a Korean lady have also come into the house.

I think I need to slow down the pace a bit, but then the slower I go, the longer this trip will take. I guess I'll just have to take it as it comes, that's what happens when you don't plan anything and don't really have any deadlines...
