Day 57 Mon 26th Dec 2005
Boxing Day.
Mmm, yeah no big sales, no long queues of people trying to buy cheap stuff in the sales, that even that cheap because most of it is only worth 20 % of the retail value anyway! Not that I've EVER been out for the sales on boxing or any other day, but I'm sure you all know what I mean! The girls were in Jalandhar from yesterday so I just spoke to them on the phone. I don't think I have mentioned this before but when I got to Pind a few weeks ago, the guy who owns the fields in front of our house, Uncle Juggo, from England (nice guy) had built a small wall all the way along the road outside. This was supposed to stop rubbish being thrown into the field or something like that. Now when I first saw this it upset me because all the years we have been coming here (since I was a little kid) I got used to being able to step out of our front door and just see fields, it was really quite nice. In building the wall they have left a lot of loose dirt on and around the road, now Uncle Juggo has gone back to England and although no one saw fit to say anything while he was here, since his departure it's been the talk of the Pind, everyone is saying it should be tidied up and sorted out but no one wants to put their money where their mouth is and sort it out. We can spend the whole day standing out side and every single person who walks by will have their little bit to say about it! That's village life I suppose the simplest thing can occupy the minds of people here and they have no idea of what's going on outside of the Pind. So anyway I spent most of the day listening to people go on about this wall and the mess that it has created. NICE!
