Day 40 Sun 30th Oct 2005
A day of rest... yeah in your dreams buddy!
I got up this morning quite early for a Sunday, it must have been around 8ish. I had planned to do absolutely nothing today but as per usual it didn't work out that way. After breakfast I went with Soma to Lakha's Koo (the farm house), I'd been meaning to go round there for a few days but time got the better of me. When we got there everyone was just chilling, we got talking, and the subject of Jeeps came up, as it has done a number of times in the past! We have been talking about buying a Jeep here for ages and never really got round to it. Soma seems to be quite determined to get one now so Lakha told us there was a big Jeep market on in Moga every Sunday, off we went (that's just the way things go here, on the spur of the moment). It took a good hour and a half to get there, that was mainly due to the fact that Soma rides the bike sooooooo slow! There was a noticeable difference in the style of towns and villages as we rode out to Moga, it was getting very fresh and old skool the closer we got to Moga. The people out there are kind of stuck in a time warp, they are very traditional in there beliefs and outlook on life, it's not about big flash houses and cars, just simple old style houses and Desi jeeps. We were looking for a Wrangler type jeep, open top with some nice rims on it! We thought we found the perfect candidate (see pic) but then I got in it... my knees came up to my ears! The driving position is very crampt, I think it's built for people who are 4ft tall. After very little deliberating we decided it wasn't practical for us and knocked the idea of that style of Jeep on the head. We are looking at getting a Suzuki Gypsy now, it's basically like the very first shape of the Suzuki Vitara we have in the UK. We had another slow but pleasant drive back to Pind, it was like being in a time warp, I got some nice pictures of old skool Punjab. Take a look, see what you think.
I don't know if I have mentioned it already but we are having a new water tank built at home. We used to have it in the shape of an Air India airplane, but it was getting old and started leaking. The water tanks in the Punjab come in all shapes and sizes, I have started taking pictures of some of them for your viewing pleasure. We are having a simple cylinder tank built, similar to the one in the picture, minus the funky patterns and the peacock! The guy who is building it is a proper Larry, he says it will be ready in 10 days, take a look at the picture, what do you think?
