It's been quite a few days since we last updated - the time is flying.

We spent Sunday exploring more of the beautiful Oregon coast. We had found a bed and breakfast online the night before and made a reservation for Sunday night in Port Orford, Oregon. The B&B, Compass Rose was off the road a bit on a quiet piece of property just off the coast. The owners had lived in New Jersey and made the decision a few years ago to find a piece of property and build their dream B&B by themselves - they did it well! We took their suggestion to eat at Griff's, a local favorite on the pier. We enjoyed a good meal in a fun location.

Monday morning we headed out toward the California coast. Again, words to describe the views throughout our day on the road are hard to find. We stopped for the night in Fort Bragg, CA.

Tuesday was another day on the coastline road. Rick did all of the driving (as he has for 99.9% of the trip), and although he enjoyed the fun and challenges of the winding, twisting road, I think he will not complain once we get back to the Midwest plains! This part of the coast is not particularly built up with lodging, and most of the places we saw all day were cabins and/or camping facilities - all stating "Full". As we headed down the road at 6:00 p.m., we were getting a little concerned we might not find a place for a couple of more hours. After miles of mostly uninhabited, rugged coastline, we ended up in the town of Gorda Springs at the Whalers Watchers Inn. It's been there more than 70 years. They had one room available - with no phone, WiFi or TV - all with a direct view of the ocean - beautiful sunset - a perfect end to the day! We ate dinner in the small restaurant attached, and realized we had stopped there about ten years ago on a trip with Rob and Ryan. Small world, but then it was the first place at the end of many miles on the road!

On Wednesday, we headed out to San Simeon to see the Hearst Castle. Having visited California many times over the years, this was the first visit there for both of us. What an amazing place . . . and man. After spending several hours there, we headed toward Venice and Janet, Chris and Kyle. Southern California traffic expanded our trip longer than expected, and we didn't arrive at their home until close to 7:00 p.m. Tired! We were happy to land in one spot for more than a day and just relax. (The luxury of a washing machine and dryer were also appreciated!) We're staying in Kyle's "Casita Williams". The finishing touches were added just minutes before we arrived. (See the picture attached.) Great job Williams family!

Thursday was mostly a lay-back kind of a day. On Friday, Rick visited the NHRA museum in Pomona with Chris. Janet and Linda did errands and finished up with a pedicure and manicure. Kyle spent the day helping out a friend upload her music albums to a new computer.

Saturday we move on to Scott and Trish's place in Rancho Santa Margarita. Janet, Chris and Kyle will join us for the day. We can't wait to meet our frist great-nephew, Andrew - the original impetus for this road trip!

We hope to update again before we leave southern California on Monday.

Love to all,
Rick and Linda
