Bonjour. An 11 hour Amtrak train ride leaving NY at 0745, including a 1 hr stop at the Canadian border for customs checks. The train route followed the edge (literally) of the Hudson river and the side of the Adirondack Mountains. The many forests were just turning into autumn colours of green, yellow, gold and especially red foliage - a really pretty sight, despite the occasional heavy rain showers. At one track changeover stage we saw a woodpecker sat on a tree branch taking a shower ! There were also herons, cormorants and bald eagles accompanying us at different stages.
Monday, 10th September
Had an easy day walking Old Montreal, especially down by the St Lawrence river in warm autumn sunshine. We visited the neo-gothic Basilique Notre-Dame, a very ornately decorated cathedral with a stunningly colourful and carved wood interior.
Had problems with the ATM's (guichettes ??), some accept English bank cards and some don't - its just like playing the lottery to see whether you eat or not !!! Up to now we eat !!

Hi H&N found out to navigate the travel pod website!!!!!!!! Read your travel details and it already sounds fantastic. I know what you mean by the portions in the US. I have always beaten the chocolate cake, I must have had more practise than you but give you time! Take care and I look forward to the next update.
