Los Angeles

Today the decision was made to visit on of the multiple movie studios in LA, afterall what was a visit to Hollywood if you didn't see where the movies were made?

I headed off just after 8 a.m. to get the Metro Red line to Universal City. Upon arrival I was presented with the choice of either going to Universal Studios or Warner Bros. Universal is more known for its rides rather than movie making and given that we would have plenty of time to visit theme parks in Orlando, I opted to go to Warner Bros.

Once again I vastly underestimated the walking distance to the studio (this will appear as a common theme throughout this blog). When I eventually arrived I joined a 2hr VIP guided tour of the studios ($45) to see the backlots and sets of shows such as ER, Friends and The Ghost Whisperer. It was an interesting place, but very similar to Warner Bros on the Gold Coast back home.

The trip back to the train station was far less arduous as I had managed to locate a bus route, saving me from another long walk. On the way back to the hotel I had my first experience of US Maccas, which for the record is just like Maccas back home.

Today was the last day I was to spend in Los Angeles as I was travelling down to Anaheim the next day to join the Contiki group. I hadn't seen everything that I wanted to see in Los Angeles, but by the same token I had seen more than enough. To be honest, LA didn't impress me at all as a city. There were some small cracks of culture amongst the tourist-orientated surface of the city, but not enough to keep you occupied for more than a few days.
