Finally! Zoobley and I soaked our feet (paws) in the Pacific Ocean today. It took two months and almost six thousand miles but we finally made it. Our planned destination, South Carlsbad State Park, was closed for the winter so we moved a few miles farther south to San Elijo State Beach. We've been camping in fairly remote areas for two months so San Elijo has been something of a shock. It's right on the highway and Amtrak route in the heart of a thriving and somewhat upscale beach community. It's also full of campers. Unlike the previously described campgrounds full of retirees, San Elijo is mostly populated by families celebrating the Christmas holiday so the drives are active with skate boarders and vociferous teenage girls. The Pacific here is also full of hundreds of surfers morning and night. Nevertheless, the sun has been warm and San Elijo has a beautiful view of the Pacific.
