For over a year I've been signed up with Synotrip, the best (and possibly only) site listing private independent guides throughout China.
You can visit the site at www.synotrip.com for listings, as well as articles and upcoming trips.
One of the great things about Synotrip is that it lists guides all over China, now just the touristy places. And by dealing direct with the guides you avoid the middle-men, and also ensure that guides get the full amount you pay. Because in China, guides only receive a fraction of the price you pay the travel agency.
It is common for guides who are guiding a group of foreigners who are paying around US$150 a day to get less than US$10 a day!
So check out Synotrip, not just because you can find me, but also to get ideas about trips across China.
BTW, I've got a trip coming up to celebrate Miao New Year - http://www.synotrip.com/tours/china/miao-new-year
