With an total investment of 180 million yuan, the road reconstruction
project of eastern tourist route in Shangri-La-from Hutiaoxia Gorge to
Haba Snow Mountain-was kicked off recently which will take a great
improvement on the traffic situation in Hutiaoxia Gorge National Park
in Deqen Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province.

Due
to the unaccessible road traffic prior to 1990s, the 17,000-meter-long
Shangri-La Hutiaoxia Gorge showed various signs of danger appearing
everywhere at that time, sources from Xie Yicheng, director of Deqen
Tourism Investment Co., Ltd.

Since the heat of tourism in
Shangri-La in 1998, the local government put a huge investment on the
road between Hutiaoxia Gorge to Baishuitai , but the road situation has
not got a sound improvement because of inadequate investment, poor
natural condition.

Therefore, the local government of Deqen
Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture planned to contruct the eastern tourist
routes in Shangri-La-Hutiaoxia Gorge National Park with investment in
three phases. The 180 million yuan investment in first phase covers the
70,000-meter-long road reconstruction and 33,000-meter-long reinforcing
steel protective guard, while the second phase focuses on the
construction of the mid-Hutiaoxia Gorge Tourism Site and the last phase
is mainly on the Jinshajiang Bridge linking the lower-Hutiaoxia Gorge
to Daju, Lijiang.

Presently, the road reconstruction project has
been carried out in 9 sectors and is expected to be completed before
the next Labor Day holiday.
