From the somewhat strange file, there comes a story this week that at least 13 people, including 3 police officers, were injured during a dance. Or to be precise, a protest against government controls of a traditional dragon dance.

In Guizhou province the people were protesting because the government had banned the dragon dance in the downtown of a small city 'for safety reasons' .

According to a Chinese news agency:
Dozens of dragon dancers, whose rehearsals were stopped Sunday, went to the county government complex and clashed with police and government employees when they tried to perform the dance in protest, said officials of the local public security bureau.

Well, that attracted a crowd to watch. A crowd of 2,000 people. Things turned nasty when the cops tried to stop the dance.

The agency, Xinhua, notes that the dragon dance is an important part of celebrating the Lantern Festival.

Monday - today - is the last day of The Spring Festival. And the first day of 'small Spring festival' also know for its lantern festival.
