We returned from Cappadoccia to spend two more days in Istanbul at a Wharton alumni event. The event included an evening dinner cruise on the bosphorous (the body of water that splits Istanbul in two and seperates the European side from the Asian side). The next day we had a series of speakers and lunches in a beautiful castle converted to a hotel. The speakers included the head of Coca Cola International, the US Ambassador to Turkey and the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdošan. The PM spoke mainly about the imporvements Turkey has made recently and about the issues between the east and west (anti-islamic sentiment in the west after 9-11, the dispute with Greece about the northern part of Cypress (both claim dominion over the north side of the island), and the "obligation" of the international community to help in Darfur.
