Where I stayed
Ice Caves Campsite
We met at Uncle Harry's shop at 5 am for our trek to Allagash Lake. The group included 15 people: Kevin, Tom, Darren, Gregg, Charlie, Tim, Missy, Lee, Reggie, Harry, Ed, Pam, Mary, Steve, and Jim. We made a stop in Medway for breakfast at Aerie's. We arrived @ the Allagash Lake gate at about 11:00 am.
While we transported gear to the lake, Uncle Harry and the transport drivers (Aunt Judy, Bobby (Jim's brother), and Bob (Steve's Father-in-Law)) drove to Churchill Dam to leave Pam & Ed's truck so that they can leave the Waterway on Monday. Ed's truck had coolers with food for the second half of the trip. Transporting our canoes and gear 1 mile along the grassy (and portions muddy) path to the lake proved to be challenging for some of the equipment. Jim's cart had a broken wheel before we started having been damaged on the trailer during the morning drive. Ed's Cabellas cart broke almost within eyesight of the truck and Reggie's cart needed some spare parts from Jim's broken cart after one trip to the lake. The three other carts worked quite well. Good thing we started with 5!
We were on the water at about 3:25 heading to the Ice Caves Campsite. We arrived at the campsite at about 4:40, setup camp, and had an amazing dinner of steak wrapped in bacon, rice, and fresh green beans. The weather was great today, sunny with highs around 80 degrees. Most campers hit the hay early with a few staying up chatting around the fire until late.
