This morning we left the campsite at 6:50 and paddled 2.3 miles to the locomotive and tram site.  We spent a couple hours exploring the locomotives and hiking to the Chamberlain Lake end of the tram.  It was a fun and educational morning.  We returned to the campsite arriving at 10:15, packed up our tents, had breakfast, and we were on the water again at 11:30.

We paddled up Smith Brook a short distance and got quite close to a moose feeding in the water and as she walked out of the water, a calf came along side and tried to nurse.  Mom wasn't too keen on the idea and lead the calf into the woods.  Got some great photos and a video!

We stopped at the Ziegler Campsite and took a look at the virgin forest before heading down the lake.  Thunder, lightning and threatening heavy rain forced us to shore at Pump Handle Campsite where we hung the tarp and waited out the rain.  We continued paddling to our next campsite with thunderstorms all around us and rain falling.

At the end of Round Pond, we saw a log truck cross John's Bridge.  The truck driver blew his air horn in response to Tom's air horn sound (well maybe not, but it sure sounded like it!)  We made it to the Scofield Point Campsite at 5:30.  A Damariscotta girls camp party was at the campsite and they forgot a tent at a site on Eagle Lake.  Steve and one of the counselors braved the thunderstorms and rain and paddled back to get it.  The girls were very appreciative and it was a happy reunion when they returned 2 hours later.

We were supposed to restock our food at Churchill Dam tonight, but with the storms and late arrival to the campsite, we pooled our leftovers together and found plenty to eat.  The kids had a great time playing cards in the tent during the rainstorm.  We saw a beautiful double rainbow over the lake in the evening.
