We stayed 3 days in our hut on the hill at Tao Thong, then moved into "town" where there's a bit more to do. It was a lovely place to chill-out and we were spoilt by the clear warm water & coral right at our fingertips, but you could only get in and out by boat, which was a bit limiting, so we decided to up-sticks and come into Mae Haad, the small port. We are in relative luxury here - all mod cons (oh what joy to have a hot shower) and yet very quiet and still only about 20 steps from the beach. We are getting used to the peculiarities here. In lots of places and all restaurants you have to leave your shoes outside. This does seem barmy as your feet are often sandier than your shoes! We've started to do as the locals do and walk around barefoot.

Saturday we took a boat around the island stopping at Thian og bay (shark bay) where Rick saw not one, not two but three baby black tip reef sharks. we also stopped at Aow Leuk bay, Hin Wong bay, mango bay for lunch and finally a small island off Koh tao - Koh Naang Yuang a private island with to-die-for beaches.
The Coral and surrounding fish are amazing - caught a lot on camera which we will add later once sorted.
Sunday - packing to leave this wonderful island, batteries recharged, somewhat more bronzed, ready for the next adventure - needless to say we are flying this time! (via Koh Samui). Been here a week, with 4 nights in one place - pure bliss.

Monday 13th Feb - HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mark!  Having briefly seen Koh Phangan and Koh Samui this morning, realise Koh Tao was a brilliant choice of island - small and still rustic with no busy roads but lively atmosphere . We loved the food (so cheap - we splashed out on a big meal the other day and it cost the exorbitant sum of £8 between us), the colourful boats, the friendly people, the Chang beer! Lovely climate, not at all humid, although we had one evening of heavy rain. They really seem to care about the environment too.

Currently delayed at Samui Airport, but can't think of a better airport to be delayed in! It's really attractive -the "departure lounge" is an open-air straw-covered roof on stilts, surrounded by tropical shrubs. Rick has just returned with complimentary pastries & drink - better go and get some too - sorry to ramble on - it passes the time well (free wifi of course).

Looks and sounds lovely in Koh Tao - I think Laura spent some time there on her travels a few years ago and enjoyed the snorkelling too. Hope you didn't get delayed too long - it's great being able to follow and see pictures of your travels, well done for setting up the blog. Enjoy your next adventure.
