Day 50 + (November 5-8)

So here we have it - we finally made it to San Diego!!  What do you know, Brian and I didn't kill each other along the way and somehow we have had some luck, got our bikes taken care of, and are pretty much are all set and ready to go.  All we have left to do is visit the zoo tomorrow and then make it to the airport(which is one of the less complicated things we have had to figure out)

hmm...what has happened since we last wrote?  Free pizza in Hermosa Beach thanks to an awesome waitress and then we headed back to meet steve and linda who gave us eggs(!!) for breakfast the next day and sent us off with sandwiches and pumpkin bread.  I can't really remember that day of riding.  There was plenty of traffic and a few bike paths...i do remember it being really confusing, but nothing too out of the ordinary.  We stayed with Dianne and Dennis that night who welcomed us with grapes and ice cream.  We enjoyed listening to all of their stories about traveling.  It turns out they've been all over the place with their bikes...and i think the stories gave brian some ideas(surprise!)  Once again the next day was traffic and surprisingly plenty of hills.  I finally got a persimmon when we stopped for lunch and brian, being the awesome boyfriend  he is, cleaned my chain since it was making horrid noises.  One of the best parts about the day was meeting up with tom and andre again and riding through the military base with them and then taking a break at the beach.  We didn't expect to ever see them again since it had been before san fran that we had camped together.  We spent the night with a really fun family who made us an awesome dinner on thursday.  Steve and Erin's house was pretty crazy with their kids(19, 16, and 5) running around. It was fun.  The next day of riding was much better since we crosssed a county line the day before.  Plenty of bike lanes and overall, not a long day...but a hot day!!!  I finally got to swim in the pacific ocean!!!  We ended the day at Jim and Julia's, going out for mexican and ice cream to celebrate.

This morning we began the quest to find a way(the cheapest way) to get our bikes home.  It deffinitely wasn't looking too easy when one of the bike shops had told us it was going to be a couple hundred dollars and then we couldn't find bike boxes, much less a cab that would be able to get us and our boxes to the airport.  We finally got a break when we visited UPS and they told us 70/bike.  We headed to the bike shope to get boxes and there they told us they would ship them from there for 40!! and we could even box them right in the shop.  We don't really know how that works, but hey, we got out of there before they changed their minds!!

Tomorrow we're heading to the hostel to drop our stuff off early and then to the zoo!  i'm sure brian will have pictures to put up so keep looking forward to at least one more update!!!

until then, peace love bicycles
