In the afternoon we visited Yanque, which is partially deserted due to the ´flu that the Spaniards brought with them. We got our first glimpse of the canyon with the terraces built to help with agriculture, and saw the "colcas" themselves, an Inca version of fridges, which must have involved climbing down the sides of the canyon to retrieve food - inventive but not very practical... I also got my first insight into walking at altitude (pathetic wheezing and sloooow pace!). We had dinner at the not-at-all-amusingly-named "El horno" restaurant, where they put on a display of Peruvian music and dancing for us. I really enjoyed this, right up until where they tried to make me dance, when I suddenly really began to enjoy my pizza (I know, such a spoilsport). Lesson learned: don´t look like you´re enjoying it too much!
