Today, we woke up and headed off to check out the universities. . .

San Diego State
We first arrived at San Diego State and walked around. It was a very bright campus. Even though some buildings were old, they were all painted bright white so everything looked clean and nice. We wandered about. I found a starbucks at the student center. Not just a little coffee stand but a full sized Starbucks store. They even made me a really good white mocha. =P

The campus was quite lovely. Most interesting was the library. The library was called the Love (or something sounding like love) but it resembles the Louvre in Paris, France. But, rather than a glass pyramid, it was glass dome with the library underneath. Quite interesting.

UC San Diego
After seeing San Diego State, we drove back to La Jolla to see UC San Diego. A much larger campus to walk around in. We walked to the Price Center (the student center) but it looked like it was part student center, part convention building as there were various meeting rooms in the building. The student center also had a various array of restaurants for students to eat at as well as a game room with pool tables (but it doesn't beat the MU Games at UC Davis!).

We walked and saw an unusual shaped building which was apparently the library. Khang explained that the library was designed to be shaped like a tree, thus it's odd shape. I don't know what it is about libraries but I guess some universities want the library to stand out on campus.

As we were wandering, we found the Engineering buildings. They were quite grand structures which my brother was in awe of. He ran all up and around each building checking it out. He said he has to reconsider his list of schools now and believes that UCSD is moving up to the top of his list of schools to go to.

Also, the weather was quite lovely here in San Diego. High 70s is what I was seeing, maybe in the 80s. But, vastly different than the 100+ temperatures of Davis/Sacramento.

Hanging out in San Diego
After checking out the universities, we were going to go back to Charles/Khang's house and then I would take Jimmy to the beach. However, Jimmy just wanted to bum around the house. He said it was too hot which made me laugh since this weather in San Diego is rather pleasant to the weather at home.

But, i enjoyed not having to take him anywhere. I milled about playing with my laptop. I did some laundry in the laundry room at the apartment complex. The dryer was quite a janky machine making quite a bit of noise but it was nice to wash some of my clothes. Been on the road for far too many days now! I also wrote a many postcards that I hope some of you will receive.

Khang returned home from work later that evening. Then, we all headed out to the beach. We drove around a bit. We went to Ocean Beach but wasn't seeing much action there so drove over to Pacific Beach. We were trying to find a more touristy beach so my brother could buy a San Diego t-shirt. After getting to Pacific Beach and Jimmy buying his t-shirt, we all walked along the beach. The sand was quite soft and ocean beautiful.

After the beach, we went to grab a bit and then went to see Talledega Nights (a movie my brother has been wanting to see since the start of the trip). The movie was really funny and it was nice to just go to the movies rather than romp around.

Tomorrow, my brother wants to "do something" which I don't know what that will entail. He didn't seem to want to do anything today. Whatever goes on tomorrow, tomorrow evening, we will return to Los Angeles as my brother has a flight on Wednesday morning back home. And then, I head to Vegas for some "me" time and also time with my best friend (which is much needed!). =D
