Lightning Storms
We are in the middle of the big drive to the bottom of Texas and Big Bend National Park. After waking up well rested and ready for a big day of travelling we pulled out from Mansfield, Missouri at 7:30 am and were on our way to Texas. We took a 'wee' detour into Kansas (just had to claim that state), crossed the line and turned right back again and headed out.
We then drove down through Oklahoma and through one of the more spectacular lightning storms that you can imagine, huge bolts of of lightning and quite loud claps of thunder boomed and cracked around Odie for a couple of hours. As well, we saw the weather watch for severe weather and thunderstorms near to the State Park where we were planning on camping and a prediction for hail the size of quarters (50c pieces to the Kiwis). So, we turned and ran to Fort Worth, Texas and another night in an extended stay hotel. It has worked out well, all the laundry done, showers had by all and onto Big Bend by tomorrow night!
