After successfully avoiding the skunk that came calling in the night, we were up and packed quite early and on the road by 7:30. This was always going to be a big driving day as not only were we going to try and head all the way to Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, we were planning a wee detour that would allow us to 'bag' a couple of more states for our tally. So we stopped at Whole Foods outside of Nashville, our new favorite place to find organic and/or grassfed/humanely raised meat, bought a couple of meals worth and headed south to Alabama. We dipped our toes across the state line into Alabama and cut west in order to snip off a corner of Mississippi. There was not a lot to report from our 11 hours in the car other than we stopped and had lunch at our favorite spot; a church parking lot. We have had tremendous luck finding lovely, calm and quiet places to stop for picnic lunches on our rambles by pulling into churches that we pass. Certainly here in the South, there is no shortage of options for this. Often we can find one that also has a playground for the kids to have a wee leg stretch. After lunch we carried on and made it to Hot Springs National Park by 6:15. Our tent was pitched and a lovely tea of steak, couscous and broccoli by 7:15. Kids are now in bed and Jess and Tim are sitting in the screen room catching up on our reading.
