We woke up to a beautiful morning and rolled out of bed at 7am as the day began to warm up. A beautiful breakfast of sausages and pancakes was enjoyed by all before Tim dealt with a stove malfunction that took an hour to resolve. However, it was all solved and we set off from camp by 10 for a relaxing day touring the park. We stopped at the Ranger Office to buy some more National Park badges for the kids, I can see a collection brewing, and ice for the chilly bin.
We drove back down the beautiful Skyline drive and went for a walk in the woods. The sun was shining, the new leaves green and radiant and rampant chipmunks running through the underbrush. Some pictures were attempted to be taken, but the little rodents just wouldn't stay still. We then stopped next to a gorgeous overlook and pulled out the collapsible table for a picnic lunch. As the children played, Jess and Tim planned the next couple of weeks. Suffice to say we will be attempting to bounce from National Park to National Park. It is a bit of a stretch, but we might be able to make 30 different parks before due back to work and school in August.
Jess went for a walk back to the campsite and Tim and the kids went for a 3 mile hike to a waterfall and along the way spotted more deer and turned over creek rocks until we found a little salamander.
We also found our first tick hiding behind Lily's right ear. Yuck!!!!
Then it was back to our campsite for an afternoon cuppa, a play for the kids and then a relaxing evening with falafel for the grown-ups and mac and cheese and hot dogs for the kids. A nice night and up early for a pack-up and hit the road. We are heading south to South Carolina and Congaree National Park.
