We woke up in the morning and had a quiet start to the day with some cheerios for the kids and coffee for the grown-ups. We were not quite sure what to do with the day before the wedding and sent the kids up the hill behind the condo for a walk. It was great to see them flying up the hill and before long they were high enough up the hill to find some patches of snow and were only dots on the skyline.
And then....the phone started ringing and the doorbell starting clanging and within about 20 minutes our little house was full of cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents etc....There were multiple children playing lego in the back room and many cups of coffee were being made. By the time we looked up, there were 18 of us and it was time to go to lunch. We all trooped off to Hogans Pub, a little golf club lunch spot which, as it turned out, had only opened for the season this weekend. We quickly commandeered the porch, pushed tables together and ordered drinks and food. The children quickly ate and then found themselves (well I reckon Lily was the driving force here) a job picking up golf balls on the driving range. It was perfect, the grown-ups ate and drank and the kids gathered together 23 baskets of balls and were even paid out by the groundsman.
Then back to the hotel for a swim in the heated outdoor salt-water pool. We had to quickly gather up our things and dash out of the way of the wedding party photos. Who knows there may be a couple of half-naked kiwis in the wedding photos!?!?!?
We quickly got dressed and heading down to the wedding. We will let the photos speak for themselves, but it is safe to say that it was a fantastic evening. The food was good, the speeches appropriately tear-jerking, the company most enjoyable, and the drinks and dancing sweat-inducing. We retired sometime after midnight, after a wonderful time catching up with the vast majority of friends and nearly one whole side of Jess's family.
