Today we packed up our stuff from Opa's house in Harrison and loaded up our van to take it on the road for its first trip up to Gould Academy and our friends; Brett, Sara, Mia and Eli (little E).
Tim started his teaching career with Brett at Kents Hill School in 1995 and they have been friends and in touch ever since.
Before we got to Bethel we took the detour to see an old covered bridge. Eli and Tim couldn't resist the opportunity of taking a 'wee' between the boards and to the river below!
We made it to Gould Academy around 3pm and Sara was waiting out front of the library for us, she could hardly contain herself and had been checking her watch every 5 minutes since noon! We went back to their house (faculty house on campus) and spent the afternoon catching up, retelling old stories and having the occasional drink. Eli Heidmann (Big E) and Eli Shifrin (Little E) jumped on some scooters and went all around the school having a ride and Lily and Mia jumped on some bikes and went away and didn't come back until dinner time. It certainly was great for the kids to have some playmates their own age to interact with; it is clear that they welcomed a break from each other.
We had a lovely home cooked spaghetti and meatballs dinner with homemade breadsticks and after the kids went to bed we continued to catch up over a game of 'Settlers'. It was a great night and sadly, before we knew it, it was time to go to bed as life in a boarding school is never simple and Brett and Sara were due in the dining hall by 7am the next morning.
We will certainly see them again in August when we make it back to Maine at the end of the great road trip!
