Ma'au Mai Beach
Well, we finally made it.....after flying west to Sydney, East to Honolulu and then a quick jump to the Big Island, Hawai'i we landed yesterday at Kona airport and picked up our rental car. We drove up the Kona coast, up to the plateau of Kamuela and then to our friend Pookie and Elizabeth's house.
We were greeted by a big hug, which was fantastic after not seeing our friend for 12 years. Pookie, aka Andrew, was with us when we got married on the Big Island in 1998. He was our Best Man, Maid of Honor, Photographer, Chauffeur, Wedding Planner, Witness.......
We loaded up his car with his big chocolate lab, Nalau, our towels, a chilly bin of chips and sandwiches and headed to the beach. It was great to be back in the warm, clear, blue waters and all of us had a great swim.
Here is Lily.....
A while after we got to the beach there was a strange feeling as a rare turtle approached the shore.
Tim, Jess, Eli, Uncle Pookie and Me saw the turtle even though I (Lily) saw it first.
When I see something rare Tim says " Go Spoten Doten ".
We were certainly very lucky to see a sea turtle (Honu) on our first day in Hawaii.
Today we are off to Hilo and the farmer's market, check out a couple of waterfalls......more later
