Well, it is finally here after nearly 3 years of talking and planning and organising and......This is the morning that we leave Cust for 15 months of travel and adventure.
We have managed to fit most of what we wanted to pack into 4 bags, each carefully packed and organised to weigh no more than 23 kg! The kids were up early and very excited. Lily said "I can't believe it's here, not that long ago we were counting down from 60!" Imagine if she had had to count down for a couple of years. Today we will introduce everyone to our mascot "KaMate the Kiwi". He will be coming with us on our grand adventure and there will be several pictures of him as he travels the USA.

We have a couple of jobs left to do at home this morning and then us and our 4 bags will be driven to the airport by Marc and Jan and on our first leg we jet from Christchurch to Sydney, Sydney to Honolulu and Honolulu to Kona for the first 5 days of the trip. It will be a bittersweet morning because while we are poised on the precipice of this exciting new chapter in  our lives, we also have to farewell our little black dog "Sophinator (aka Nator)", our Hawaiian kitty "Kika" and our two lovely pigs, Diesel and Flower. Of course, we also have to have the difficult time of (temporarily of course) saying goodbye to Marc and Jan, Tutu and Oney and all of the wonderful friends that we have made in the last 14 years in Aotearoa.

Onwards and upwards.....The Heidmanns are now officially on tour!!!!!!

11pm - We are home in Kowhitirangi after tea at Jackson's, all is well here. You are in our thoughts as the four of you are flying to Honolulu and then on to Kona tonight. We said our goodbyes to K & J around 6pm, their van and car unloaded and settling into life in Cust, wonderful, chooks and dogs fed! Aloha, xooxox

Very impressed with the Heidmann packing! Can't wait to follow your travels. As you enjoy Kona we have had a beautiful weekend of weather to end the holidays and this afternoon will start thinking about school lunches and slippers for the classrooms!
