Where I stayed
Just passing through at the moment...
We had a great, albeit short week with the kids [ it's getting hard to call them kids anymore ]. The beach was practically empty the week they were here - spring break for most schools would be the following 2-3 weeks - and the weather was somewhat chilly, if you consider 60's chilly, but undaunted, they still ventured out into the ocean. No other humans were in the ocean, although they did have the priviledge of swimming with a shark, or so they thought. I, of course, in my infinite wisdom informed them that the water was too cold for sharks and it must have been a dolphin, only to find out on the evening news that a migration of 1500 sharks was seen working up the coast. Like I said ....
They spent their last night in a hotel on the beach in Ft Lauderdale before returning to the freeze. I cannot relate any details of that final day and night, nor do I wish to know any of those details.
Mary has had numerous visits to an Emergi-Care doctor - these are walk-in clinics that seem to be on every corner around here - to try and figure out what is wrong with her hip. She's pretty tough, and I have seen her endure a lot of pain for the past few years with the RA, but when she says the pain in her hip is 100 times more intense than all of the others ..... yikes ! We've had x-rays taken, which were inconclusive, and so we had an MRI done late last friday and are awaiting the results as I write. The remainder of the Odyssey will have to be determined by the diagnosis and treatment. Once again, we can't thank Pete and Diane enough for taking us in and for not letting us feel like a burden, like the damn family that just won't leave.
OK, the MRI report is in - unfortunately we don't understand what it says exactly, but all indications point towards a total hip replacement, an " abnormal morphology of the left femoral head ... compatible with advanced Stage lV avascular necrosis. " She has an appointment with an orthopaedic Doc tomorrow who happens to be the main hip guy for the Orlando Magic and some other teams. Mare will be back on the court tossing in those double pumps in no time. Stay tuned.
After receiving the diagnosis and recomended treatment, we'll hopefully be able to have the procedure and recuperation coincide with some work in the same place, then resume the Odyssey.
Oh yeah, Ole Red had a heart attack. Had to have him towed back to Pete and Diane's driveway, where surgery was sucessfully undertaken to replace a fuel pump, thanks to some youtube videos that showed me how. Managed to get the whole job done for about $150. I'm looking for the youtube video on hip replacements now !
