I committed to a painting per state, but I'm falling behind pretty quickly. I've set up the easel in three different living rooms and have had varied light to work by - I'm getting my excuses out there - but it's always fun, especially when I'm doing something particularly for someone, which was often the case. Travis' Mount Rushmore presented a unique challenge, but I take immense pride seeing it framed, inlaid no less, in his beer pong table . The table is indirectly lit from below as well. The Vipond farm was the first painting in a while, and typically after a layoff I will unwind with broad strokes and bold colors just to get the feel of a brush again .' Monkey' was a thank you to Nancy and Kathy for incredible friendship and hospitality. Sadly, Monkey, who was 17 years old, is now importalized after leaving this world 2 weeks after we left.
'Tuffy' is Sam and family's dog who, with a few years behind him as well, seems to be doing well. Skip and Connie wanted the famed campus clock of Hanover College, which once again presented a challenge to make an interesting painting of a clock. '2075' was inspired by a walk on the beach in Ocean City. It's not quite that bad.......yet.
'Rockfish' came from an old black and white photo I found that somehow spoke to me. And my favorite came from the beautiful afternoon we spent at Churchill Downs, where I hiked down to the final turn coming into the stretch to take the photo. The title 'Go Baby Go' was decided for me by the street machine in the lot right next to the track. I have a couple more 'under construction', but I'm thinking I better get ahead a few before we get too close to warm beaches, recliners and margaritas. Maybe I'll have a Gaugin inspiration!
