An Old Friend

We were trying do decide what to do next and I had mentioned to Billy I wanted to try to see cousins in Birmingham Michigan, Zach & Brittany Ullrich and a old friend who, if the address was still current were only a minutes from each other.

We were talked into staying in Ann Arbor one more day (and we'd already been there a week!) so we took a quick daytrip up north.  My friend Ann (Lark Kidder) Dine was totally up for company on short notice and sadly our cousins were committed so we missed that reunion.  They have a new baby Grace we hoped to see as well but as we have said before the Odyssey has no scientific formula!

It was a gorgeous day and easy one+ hour drive. (We had left the Toy Hauler at Nancy's since we were going back for our Ethiopian date!)

Ann was home alone but expecting her younger son Joe whom I'd never met. He is a Senior in High School and had only one or two classes so he'd be home at lunctime to turn around and head out to work at a local pizza "joint."

Billy had met Ann back in the day too so we knew some friends in common from the time when Anna Banana and I lived on Lone Oak Road in Bethesda. Ann and her family were our neighbors across the street so her two oldest kids Tyler and Lark were babies (finished college now.)

I have recognized her anywhere! Ann's husband Chris is an attorney and was at work (it was the middle of the day on a Wednesday after all!) We chattered ranpantly about the olden days, Ann gave us a tour of their home... it became evident that her entire family were artists. It was fabulous. There were original pieces in every room... every meduim you could imagine. It was a beautiful neighborhood and adorable surrounding townships.  I guess I never spent much time in Michigan so it was great to know friends and family had found these gems to settle in and enjoy.

Speaking of art....Billy had finished only one painting at that point but had decided he was going to commit to one painting per state on "The Tour" not necessariily OF each state but one per state.

I had left my camera's memory card in my lap top so I only had my phone. These pix are not very good but all I had of this visit! We went to the California Pizza Kitchen for a casual lunch which was a few terrific salads and soup. Perfect!

As we drove to an neighborhood mall Ann pointed out the vacant 40 acre complex that had been the Kmart Corporate Headquaters until 2010. Its departure took a toll on the local population but this area and the mall aired of elegance like Mazza Galleria and White Flint in their day.  CLEARLY more "citified" (as Billy would say) than the relaxed, laid-back, sporty, casual, college town of Ann Arbor.

Ann looked great, I'd have recognized her anywhere! She seemed happy with a subtle elan and very content with her comfy suburban life.  It was great to have the chance to re-connect.

Banana on

Ann looks great (and of course, you do too - that goes without saying)! We sure had some fun with her back in the day. We lived on Montauk Ave. right off of Lone Oak (not to correct you or anything). Those were some good times (except for a few roommate issues).
