We took a bus from Colonia to Tacuarembo in northern Uruguay. This is in true "Gaucho" country. The men in town still wear the gaucho boots with their pants tucked in and a beret on their heads and they ALL walk around town with their “yerba mate”.
The drive up north was beautiful senic countryside, farms and ranches. We stayed at a nice little hotel which had American TV. Sorry to say we did spend a few hours watching reruns of Friends and Two and a Half Men.
The town square was nice to sit at and people watch and there was a great Gaucho museum that we went to.
