After all that stress of getting the dogs to the Patagonia area of Coyhaique, Vic and I decided to treat ourselves to a realaxing stay at a Hostal away from the town. We chose Las Salamadras which is on the banks of the Rio Simpson. We found a taxi to drive us there, as we drove up I noticed the sign said "CERRADO" and we were so dissapointed and TIRED. The taxi kept saying that someone was there, so we figured we were already there so we might as well find the person. As I walked up the steps the owner walked out to greet me. As it turns out they really were not open yet...but the cabin was ready and she would give it to us for the same price of a private room in the lodge. How lucky was that?

We absoluty LOVED our little cabin! We felt like we had been transported back in time to the late "1800's". It was a traditional log home, with actual log planking inside the home as well, all the furniture was handmade solid wood. Vic kept the little wood stove going all the time as it was our only source of heat. We kept our soup that we cooked and our tea warm on top of the wood stove as well.

It was a nice change to finally have a kitchen so that we could cook for ourselves a little. And as it turned out, it was the best move that we made since I came down with a cold our first night there (I'm sure from the bus ride from hell). Needless to say we had lots of soup and lots of rest.

I did manage to get myself up for a few nice walks. The nieghbor's dog always seemed to come with us and one time he chased after the other nieghbor's chickens, caught and killed one. We tried to stop him, where he ran off with it we never knew. We also went on a GREAT half day horsebackriding trip....which we forgot to bring the card to the camera (left in the computer!!!)

We actually hated to leave this beautiful oasis in Patagonia but we've just gotten started....
