Onwards then to the musical interlude in our trip to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. We saw them last night and they are better than ever. It's was 20 years ago I first saw them (showing my age) and they just keep on improving. The improvised jams are just brilliant. More on them later.

We nearly missed our flight on Ryanair to get here, our names were called. I'm not sure why, as we got to the airport early enough. We must have just stuffed around somehow and time got away from us.

Ryanair are terrible. Avoid at all costs. It's the most ghastly Airline in the skies. Something like the fast food of flying. Yellow plastic seats, service more like a cheap casino than an airline. For example, this is a non smoking flight, but please purchase these smoke free cigarettes. O.8 mg of nicotine and only 6 euros each! All through the flight they parades past us trying to sell some piece of crap. One guy attendant was chewing gum he was so disinterested.

However we got in on time, and are still having heaps of fun. Elena has joined us for this bit of the journey. We've been joined by Kelly from Alabama who collected us from the airport. You can say we've come from far and wide to see this show!

The reason we picked this small town to come to for the gig was because our German friend Anni lives right next door. She is just over the border in a small town called Weeze, and the show was in Nijmegen in Holland. She came and met us at the hotel and stayed until past midnight even thought she had to work. Great to have such loyal friends!

The first nights hotel was on the German side and last nights on the Dutch. I was closer to the venue. Both have been highly efficient places, without much character. The culture has changed markedly from Italy's organic wild style to no nonsense Northern European.

I guess it's easy to expect stereotypes whenever you travel. Eg Italians are feisty and loud, Germans are cool and calculating. These things are noticeable on the surface, but the opposite can be true and I guess the point of travelling is to develop an open mind. I've certainly been proven wrong in my assumptions many times as the opposite of the above can easily be true. Italians like to be conservative and traditional, and Germans are now the artiest in Europe. More so in Berlin of course. I've already seen my fair share of harsh German 80s square cut hair over here, and that's just the females. Think Annie Lennox bleached look you could balance a ruler on!

The hotels have been equally harsh and functional, with curt service and even harsher breakfast. An unappetising selection of rye bread, hard cheese, pickles and cold meat on offer. Thankfully there was also some fruits, yogurt and cereal to appeal to my more antipodian tastes.

I need to talk more about the show before I finish this blog as that's what'd we came for. All the other parts of the trip have been planned around it so I might as well mention it a bit more. It ha been the highlight of the whole journey so far and really kicked this trip into high gear elevating above mere travels into best times of my life. it really was that good.

The concert was more like a big outdoor festival than a normal gig. The atmosphere was like a big outdoor party surrounded by beautiful nature of woodland northern Europe. There were 2 support bands then they came on a 8:45pm and played for over 2 hours but it was still slightly light after they finished near 11pm. Dancing away in the warm late light in enormous parkland to the songs of my adolescence with our great friends was just magic.

Shells friends a serious fans of the band and go to many shows a year. They know the sound man, the band and many people back stage. We were whisked up to the sound desk when we arrived and stayed there mingling for a while. Our friends went off to meet Anthoty Keidis's mum while we were out getting dinner so we missed out on that. The point is that it was more an just going to a show for these girls. They love the band like family.

At this point me and Rachelle will part company asa she is heading to Paris to watch another RHCP show with the girls and I'll head on the London to see dome of my friends and family there.
