Broome is located on the Northwest coast of Australia, and was established back in the day, due to the large amount of pearling oysters located off its coast. The town has a real frontier sense about it, mixed with a little Bohemia and a little Miami-wannabe-chic.....nice combination!

There are only 2 seasons up here, The Dry and The Wet. Right now is the tail end of The Dry (the high season), and building up to The Wet. Apparently it rains buckets all day during the height of The Wet. The in-between season is hot, humid and occasionally rains. So far it has been verrrry HOT during the day in the sun (around 100 degrees F), but it cools down considerably in the evening when the breezes kick in...

The Aussies refer to the hot, humid and lazy days in this part of Western Australia as "Broome Time". It's an attitude more than anything, and they get dreamy-eyed when referring to this part of Australia. Tropical Mentality meets Frontier Mentality --- wow! Nearly all the vehicles in Broome are 4 wheel drive land rover/cruiser sorts of cars, just in from or ready to head in to, either the Kimberly Wilderness across the Top End, or the long, unpopulated West Coast of Australia. They are all covered in the fine red dust which is everywhere here in Broome. True Outback adventurers, everywhere! I plan on heading into the Kimberly Wilderness on a camping safari in a couple of days.  The trip should be filled with lots of gorges, swimming holes (will be on the look-out for crocs --- not the shoes!), hiking trails, cool geology, camp fires, stars, stars and more stars!

There was a lovely Kite Festival yesterday, so Cable Beach was packed with families building sand castles and flying kites. Beautiful Day! The sunsets on Cable Beach are quite infamous and the crowd gathers every evening as the time approaches.....the best thing to do is grab a "Sundowner" (Aussie-speak for a drink) and a rock to sit on, or take a ride on a camel and enjoy the beauty......think I will do both!
