The girls did the right thing and slept in until 7 o'clock! Maggie announced that she had actually needed the toilet most of the night but didn't want to get up in case she disturbed Santa. We decided to open one present at a time, which meant that it took a while to open all the presents, which made it even more fun. First all of the kids unpacked the stockings that Santa had left for them, and then we open the presents form each other. I received a wonderful bracelet, and a whole bunch of other presents from Jess, a beautiful sketch of Split from Cameron and Jean a brilliant travelling towel shaped like a dolphin from Georgie and a note book from Maggie.
The girls hadn't noticed yet the big presents from Santa - each of them received an iPod, which they were over the moon about.
Cameron made a delicious home-cooked hot breakfast of eggs, bacon mushrooms and grilled tomato which was just fantastic and then we lazed around the apartment for a while playing with our gifts and getting ready ever so slowly for our luncheon date.
Despite bringing a minimum of clothes, Jess was able to put a few things together and look a million dollars as we headed off to lunch. The kids also got all dressed up and Jean did her hair in a French braid so she looked like a movie star. I must say I was a very proud dad as I walked with them to the restaurant. The weather had changed and we had a crisp but beautifully sunny day for our celebration.
The Bevanda turned out to be the perfect choice. The service was impeccable and the table had been set to look magnificent, with candles, and a floral centrepiece. Silver service made it complete. We started with some sparkling wine and an appetiser provided by the restaurant. We were each able to find meals from the a la carte menu that made the meal special, and settled in to four courses, with three different wines. We stayed in the restaurant for more than three hours, admiring the sea views and our fellow diners (all of whom we outlasted). After 4pm we staggered out of the restaurant thanking them profusely for a wonderful experience. We continued our stagger, along the sea front, until we reached our apartment.
I had said that to make the day perfect it would be great if we could stretch out and watch a Christmas movie. Lo and behold, when we switched on the television we found exactly that so the girls (all three of them) snuggled up with Jess and I and allowed out meal to digest in comfort while we watched a chick flick Christmas movie.
As I said in the title, it was a joyous Christmas for us.
