The flight from Istanbul to Kayseri with Onur Air was smooth and uneventful - just what you want from a flight! We arrived into Kayseri at about 4 pm and two things immediately struck me. First was how dark it was for that time of day and second what a magnificent snow-capped mountain was to be seen.

As promised, there was a man waiting with a sign with my name on it ready to give me my hire car. I was a bit nervous about what I was going to get, because I had paid a lot less than other agencies had quoted, but I should have had no such fear. I was using the agent recommended by Tom Brosnahan on the TurkeyTravelPlanner site - perhaps the only site you need to consult when planning for a trip to Turkey. The car we received is a brand new VW Passat and is like driving a spaceship. In Australia this would count as a luxury vehicle.

As the dark descended we followed the excellent instructions that we had been given for the trip from Kayseri to Urgup. I was nervous behind the wheel because although I had driven a left-hand-drive before in the US and in Greece, they had been automatic, and this car is a manual. Still, I managed OK.

By the time we reached Urgup it was completely dark and so we had to drive around a bit before we found our chosen accommodation, Esbelli Evi, another TurkeyTravelPlanner recommendation. From the outside it's just a wooden door with a small name plaque. I said to Jess 'Do you think this is the right place?' She reassured me and we knocked on the door. Shortly after Suha, the owner came to let us in.

Suha showed us around and then showed us to our room. What an amazing place. We can't believe our luck staying in such a lovely place. It reminded us immediately of our stay in the Tower of Hallbar in Scotland - all the stone I guess. Our bags magically appeared and we settled in for a while.

Suha gave us some good dining recommendations and we walked down the hill (about ten minutes) to eat at ªömine Restaurant which was on my researched list of recommended dining anyway (as were all of Suha's other recommendations - clearly this man knows where to go!).

The meal was sumptuous and so reasonably priced we felt so lucky to be there. After eating our fill we staggered back up the hill (20 mins), the girls with an ice cream in hand. Although it was early we sank into our luxurious beds and fell asleep quickly.
